For anyone who likes to travel - Air Canada is offering one of it’s pass sales again. It’s called a welcome aboard pass and it’s 2 months of unlimited travel, but it’s restricted on which days you can travel.

If you go to www.aircanada.com then click on flight passes and select welcome aboard passes.

I’d adore one, but rumour has it that tuition has to come first.

Time periods in movies that is.

I went to watch Marie Antionette tonight.

What a waste of the $5 and the time it took. I heard it had really good costuming, but that was a joke. The costuming was okay (probably passable for non-authenticity nuts. AKA anyone but me), but not enough to counterbalance the rest of the crap that was considered a movie.

I’m so cheesed all I can really say is this: if you are going to spend that much money on the actors, the costumes, and the sets - couldn’t you have hired some 2nd year history student and when they went “um…. that’s soooo wrong” taken 2 seconds to correct it? I mean how much could a history student cost? And I’m sure they could have doubled up by running coffee for Ms. Dunst - who didn’t try at all to change her modern american accent. Ick.

Bleh - I have yet to walk out on a movie, but I contemplated it for this one. Sophia Coppola you have some explaining to do.

As soon as the e-mail money transfer goes through with my first month’s rent and my damage deposit I officially have my living space in Saskatoon sorted out. It’s not big as it’s a bachelor, but I got used to that style of living after being in Singapore really - and it will be all mine *cue evil laughter*. Well except for the upstairs cats coming down to visit.

Huzzah!! One fee for my rent, utils, internet, and laundry! It’s two blocks away from a bus stop on one of the direct runs to campus and there’s parking available if I do decide in favour of a car. Which is really going to have to wait until after I see what the total damage tuition plus books does to my bank balance.

Well, that’s one major concern down for the semester. Now if I can just get the right drives in for this server things will be going forward rather swimingly. I never thought I would be so happy about anything related to living space in Saskatoon.

Ramblings and Work - geo21 Dec 2006 03:40 am

Work related clearance first:

SAGE software has crap technical support and ACT is a pain to work with from a technical perspective.

Avanti (an accounting program) gets props for having good tech support, but their install documents need work. Just an fyi for anyone installing it - the settings you put into the admin interface on the server need to be valid for every client accessing it - so if being accessed by a local network then a local network share is okay, but if being accessed off the local network you’ll need a valid ftp or http:// accessible folder for the data.

Finished the last of the immediate changes to the client site. Now I need to finish one more site and contemplate applying myself to finding some more web design clients I suppose. The server work progresses.

Non-work related:

The presents are wrapped. The decorations are mostly up (the stockings will go up today). All that’s left is a bit of baking and cleaning.

Random question of the day:

How do you know when an evening has moved from the spending time with a friend space to the being out on a date space?

So it turns out there’s an advantage to still being a child in your parent’s mind…

It means they still buy you new clothes for your doll .

Let me explain a bit first - this is not just any doll, but the doll which came home from the hospital at the same time (in his own carrier and with his own baby blanket) at the same time as my little brother. This particular cabbage patch kid is so important to me that I did not take him with me to Singapore because I didn’t want to risk the trip. Unfortunately as a result he spent the year in a box - much to my dismay - and that’s part of what lead to the new clothes. Ah, guilt gifts.

The other contributing factor is that the doll has been perpetually stuck in his ‘little boy’ clothes for at least a decade. Given his real life counterpart turns 22 this year and the comment I’ve heard the most since I returned is a variation on ‘you grew up’ - I decided it was time for him to have a change as well. As a result he’s wearing what the teenage him should wear as the polar opposite of my little brother. heh.

Other than preparation for the upcoming holiday (shopping, wrapping, and baking) it’s pretty much been work really. Rather mundane in comparison to the past few months…

Exams are done!! I will not look at a school related book or write a school related word for 3 complete weeks - woot!

Meanwhile I have a pile of web design and other contracting work to occupy my time and hopefully produce the money required for living off of next semester since I expect it will be harder to find well paying contracts in Saskatoon as opposed to Calgary.

For those who the gossip didn’t reach - I was in Saskatoon for under 48 hours to write exams and drop off some boxes. I would have loved to catch up with everyone, but the time I was in the city which wasn’t taken up with necessary things like exams and mail was 16 in total and part of that was needed for sleep. More than was actually used for sleep in fact…

For those I got to run into for breakfast - = D = D = D

I should be back in Stoon before New Years but the exact date of arrival is yet to be set - once it is though I will try to get in touch with and see everyone, aight?

Random facts:

- 2 deer used my car as a moving kleenex on the way out to Stoon
- no deer used my car as a moving kleenex on the way back
- my new favorite highway is AB#21 because it winds somewhat like AB#9 (Drumheller valley road) but is wider and has significantly less deer.
- I think I may go to Edmonton next weekend

What Type of Person Are You? [pictures + detailed results]

The cynical - The dreamless

Cynics have similar traits to the Pessimist, but unlike the Pessimist, Cynics are fine with how things work. These type of people have no real expectations in life, or at least they try to not have. Perhaps it is an empty life they lead, but they rarely let anyone know of their misfortunes.
They are true sceptics, doubting everything presented to them. Unless they already know about it being true, they will not believe. Cynics see themselves as realists, for they believe they’ve got reality all figured out. People often perceive them to e cold, and Cynics rarely share themselves with people to prove otherwise. After all, people aren’t meant to be trusted. Yet Cynics have no bigger issue with this. Time has led them to accept things.
They are no dreamers either. They certainly don’t have, what they would call, “childish fantasies”. They stick to what they know. It is not that they are reluctant to accept new things -perhaps they are- but they don’t find the evidence all too convincing for them to adopt another type of thinking.
Cynics are not charming people. They prefer to say truthful statements instead of sugar-coating. They are not seen as particularly sensitive -even though they may or may not be- as they show little consideration. They see through facades and lies and lean on facts and logic for support. Whether or not they are social, Cynics don’t value relationships that much. Of course there might be an exception or two, but they generally live for themselves. Emotions are for fools, they think. Even though they feel this way, it doesn’t mean they don’t harbour them. They are just more secretive about it than others.
Quote:
“A cynic is a man who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.” -Oscar Wilde

You Are: 80% Dog, 20% Cat

You and dogs definitely have a lot in common.
You’re both goofy, happy, and content with the small things in life.
However, you’re definitely not as needy as the average dog. You need your down time occasionally.
Are You More Cat or Dog?

1) I’d always thought I had a red tone in my skin. At some point while in Singapore I realized that I didn’t. After I’d been back one day I got my first mild case of wind burn and it hit me that it’s actually just been a rotating case of mild wind burn and mild sun burn. Bah!

2) Altitude and Cold combine to make for miserable jogging conditions. Also lungs accustomed to the oxygen content at close to sea level will be severely unhappy when forced to try and function at approximately 4000 ft further. My distance jogged per week has severely dropped down.

3) No matter how old you get - to your parents you are always a teenager - roughly aged 16.

I’ve made it back safely and I’m starting to adjust to the time, cold, etc. Hopefully will see some people this weekend.
