Kinda still wish I was there. At least when I was sick there I pushed myself to do the workshop, went and had a nap, then went back for the extra prep hours.
First day back, total hours in the office, 10. Yes that’s excluding lunch. Am still ill and rather depressed about it to be honest.
Have three long rambling type posts drafted while in New Zealand ready, but not sure I actually want to copy them from the non-working offline post creator app and into browser window. Don’t think it’s worth the effort right now. Do love you all anyways – just want sleep more.
Loved New Zealand despite the chilly weather.
Well, the workshop in Malaysia was interesting. By the end I had no voice due to the sheer volume of time I spent talking. My boss has introduced a new initiative to only send one trainer to a workshop.
Thankfully for next week this initiative is suspended mainly due to the fact that I only have a voice in rotating shifts. I’ll be doing setup on Monday (when I arrive) and then teaching Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Until then the plan is to sleep, drink lots of fluids, and hope my bones stop hurting.
The phone number has stayed the same because it’s a paygo phone as opposed to a contract just transfered the sim card from the old phone to the new one. But one of my flatmates here actually just got a job in Malaysia so as of the 15th there will be someone new in my space. Haven’t met him yet (because here the individual rooms are rented as opposed to the whole condo/apartment) and am not really looking forward to breaking up the all girl dynamic which we had going on. I guess it’s just life though.
Work is interesting right now. We’ve got our fourth and final summer student joining us on Monday. Right now I think all of our client projects are in the hands of the summer students under our expert guidance. Mostly a series of online meetings combined with design doc and code reviews in my case. Soon we’ll be into the design phase for the next releases – one of which will be designed for Office 2007 so that one will be the most interesting regarding design. Developing a product against a beta – but sometimes its just necessary, ya know? We’re still deciding if we’re going to design the other product to interface into Sharepoint Portal Server ‘07 or design a seperate web interface first and then do the web parts later. Either way it doesn’t look like work will be ‘quieting’ down any time soon…
Having said that I’m still tooling away on my web design project and have pretty much decided that the interactive map will have to be done in flash – no matter how much that will make the page larger and therefore slower to download – because doing it in javascript would require more time and patience than I’ve got at this piont. Also more web skills than I think the person they’ve choosen to maintani the page has at this point, I believe.
So in summary, I’m alive. Do please write me e-mails because it’s obvious from the comments that I’m missing some which also means I will have to resend a few of the ones I’ve drafted lately. Also anyone who wants a postcard should leave a shout out on the comments for this post because I’ve got a stack from the countries I’ve been visiting that I haven’t gotten around to sending. Since New Zealand seems likely to be my last stop for at least a month it’s probably a good time to think about tossing a few postcards into the mail.
