Why I hate it when things go wrong…
Okay so I took my laptop into the shop as you all may recall from the previous post.
And the guy at the counter assured me that although the little waiver said ‘we are not responsible for the data’ that in fact nothing could possibly happen to my data, so I didn’t need to worry about it.
But being me – not only did I get charged money to have a screw (that I have no idea how it could have physically gotten in there) out of my CD-ROM (the broken rom being the reason I didn’t back my data up like a sane person – the second being that my external drive is still in Canada), but additionally some of my files appear to be corrupted. So I guess this means that my weekend homework is trying ever trick known to the internet to get them back – mainly the code and work related files first. There’s also some photos and some stories that appear to be junked, but those are less pressing issues.
I say appear because they don’t work anymore on my mac laptop if I retain any luck whatsoever they’ll work on the windows box when I take them into work tomorrow. Please cross your fingers for me.
So it’s a count down, I’ve been patient on waiting on a response from my prof over the holidays. As of Tuesday, it’s fair to start e-mailing again. Also as of Tuesday it will be time to get the development cycle underway again.
Well, tomorrow is the last day of this year. Maybe I’m set to have better luck in the new one.

So it’s not all good news, but its news
First of all thanks for all the nice comments on the blog. And the e-mails telling me I hadn’t posted in a while, some being as specific as Dec 11th (Hi Grandma! = D ).
Short version of the story goes like this – went to Brunei (as some of you may have guessed from the comment Kavi left on his last day) and had limited to no internet access. Got back and sent some urgent e-mails back to the CMPT prof at usask.
Then the laptop starting acting up and had to go to the shop.
Insert comment about withdrawal regarding internet and a non-work computer here.
I’ve finally got it back and am hoping to work through the e-mails soon and will put up a longer post (if only to rant about apple) soon.
But right now I’ve got to get my butt in gear. For a ‘week off’ it seems I’ve spend a lot of time at work.
Happy Holidays everyone.

In a strange turn of events…
(Was to be) flying to India to give another workshop on MLG today. (But the travel agent didn’t get a visa for me, so no workshop. Hopefully next week.)
Got truly homesick for the first time yesterday. Realized that all the little things I’d cached in the moving I went out to see (Aeon Flux, I liked it, but then kick ass female lead combined with love over coming obstacles, hope for the human race and all that) to tell people – I probably wasn’t going to get to because saying things like that is something that just doesn’t work right over the internet.
Well, I guess the solution is to keep working like I have been – then I won’t have time to be home sick right?
Miss you all.

Today I found a place to call mine….
I also arrived safely, but the other news is more exciting.
I’m renting a master bedroom with ensuite which has its own tub!!! Tub’s are rare in singapore housing and yay for not having to share a bathroom!
The lady who owns the apartment has a passion for asian art pieces so I like the decorating scheme. Thankfully there’s laundry in the apartment.
The building has a pool, tennis courts, and fitness center. It’s also only 10 minutes by bike from where I work! It also has good public transit access and there’s a shopping mall 10 minutes in the other direction.
The only potetial snag is that I don’t know who the roomates are going to be, but hopefully I get a chance to meet them before they sign a lease. Even if not I’ll just hide in my room I guess.

Transferring from Australia to Singapore.
Just so everyone’s aware of my current locale – maybe I need a little map thingy I can update instead of posting each time?
Tomorrow is apartment hunting – Yay!!!!!

Today I was worried…
Because I had reached the last 3/4 of my last book.
So when I was wandering around Sydney I found a bookstore. While wandering around in there I found Georgette Heyer books which were NOT published by harlequin. *insert cheering sounds here* They still contain her original author’s note(s), where she’d written one anyways, such as her original list of works used for Spanish Bride and Infamous Army.
So I purchased Faro’s Daughter (which if I’ve ever read it I can’t remember at all), Friday’s Child (which I think I’ve read, but don’t own my own copy of), and Charity Girl (which I’ve read, but don’t own). Now am I set for the remainer of my public transit trips, the flight back to Singapore, the evenings in my hotel room, and the upcoming flights to India and Brunei. Of course, I’ll chew through them faster than I realize, but it was so nice to discover one that I can’t even remember ever reading as well as some I don’t own. Makes me slightly less anxious to have my books back. Only slightly mind. I still intend to have an apartment picked before I go to India on the 12/13.
On a side note, does anyone who reads this know what’s going on with my 370 group? My e-mails are either not getting through or are falling into a black hole. Last word I heard was third hand that my code and presentation e-mails hadn’t gotten through and that a cd had been created to give to them. I’d love to know what’s going on….
